February is not only known as the month of love and friendship. In many countries, it is also recognized as Heart Health Month, an opportunity to remember the importance of taking care of your heart through healthy habits. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide, and one of the main risk factors is a sedentary lifestyle. Organizations such as the Spanish Heart Foundation and the American Heart Association agree that regular moderate physical activity is one of the most effective ways to strengthen the heart and prevent disease.
When we think of exercise to improve cardiovascular health, we often imagine intense workouts or demanding routines. However, activities such as dancing—and especially salsa—are an excellent way to get consistent and enjoyable aerobic exercise. Dancing for 30 to 45 minutes activates the cardiovascular system, improves blood circulation, increases physical endurance, and contributes to weight control. In addition, because it is a dynamic and musical activity, the effort feels lighter, which makes it easier to stick with it, one of the fundamental pillars of long-term heart health.
But taking care of your heart isn’t just a physical matter. Stress, anxiety, and social isolation also directly influence cardiovascular health. Dancing helps reduce cortisol (the stress hormone) levels, stimulates the release of endorphins, and improves mood. In a month where we talk so much about love, we can also talk about self-love: dedicating time to moving your body, learning something new, and connecting with other people is a powerful way to achieve overall well-being. That’s why integrating salsa into your routine is not only a recreational activity, but a real tool for improving your physical and emotional health.
At Salsa Flow, we believe that anyone can start, regardless of their previous experience. We offer beginner, basic, and intermediate classes designed to accompany you step by step, respecting your pace and helping you gain confidence while taking care of your body. Write to us, find out about the schedules, and take the first step to strengthening your heart through dance 💛💃
