Strangely enough, they have much more in common than you might think. Today September 21st, International Day of Peace declared by the United Nations. Among the main objectives of Peace are: healing, respect for others and enjoyment in community without barriers. And here’s my secret: Salsa also has these objectives!
SALSA AS A PROMOTER OF THE UNION BETWEEN DIFFERENT CULTURES
Have you ever wondered why more and more Europeans, Asians or Africans are interested in learning to dance Salsa? Salsa, and all dance activities, tries to capture history, the culture of that country and the connection through the practice in dance classes. Nowadays 70% of the people don’t know the real origin of Salsa, thinking that it could be European. Which, due to it is great success in different countries, it is logical to think so. Its origin goes back to Cuba and it has been crossing borders through Mexico, the United States and Latin America.
Salsa has broken both linguistic and cultural barriers, spreading to all continents, causing the birth of different styles of salsa: Cuban salsa, online, caleña, Puerto Rican, on 2, on one, etc. Each country has adopted this genre and has created fusions, from which have emerged rhythms such as Timba, Mambo and Boogaloo, among other rhythms.
BUT HOW DOES SALSA PROMOTE PEACE?
I share this very specific concept that the United Nations raised, just the International Day of Coexistence in peace, “peace is not only the absence of conflict. Living in peace is about accepting differences and having the ability to listen, recognize, respect and appreciate others, as well as to live in a peaceful and united way”. The essence of salsa and dance in general coincide with several of its objectives: listen to the other to connect in the movement, recognize that we all want to enjoy in a space together, respect the other person in all his being and appreciate these spaces, where socials and events try to generate connections from different countries of the world.
With the purpose of getting to know each other around the world, to coincide in an infinite genre of knowledge and fun. It is now when you can contribute today September 21st, on the International Day of Peace, by signing up with us @salsaflow, to take salsa lessons and be part of a community that always seeks to contribute and generate peace.
